|The DETAILS behind the Death of Fashion Week
When I released DETAILS in December 2019, I had no idea it would cover the last four years of Fashion Week as the World ever knew it.
How could the general public’s fear of travel and social distancing ever work for an industry whose sole identity is built on mingling, fancy dinner parties, double cheeked kisses and my favorite, the all mighty importance of attending a high fashion show to garner THAT photo with every A list Fashionista or Fashionisto inside of the building.
At the end of the day, THIS is the only thing Fashion Week is about.
Getting the picture(s).
But If there is one thing you must know about Fashion Week, it’s that rooms AND runways are always packed. Thousands of people take upon these cities every season to show their love and appreciation for the art of Fashion.
Let’s not even mention the stages of Photographers who battle blow to blow with each other for shoulder space once the lights hit and the models stunt down the runway. You are literally FORCED to share body contact and oftentimes, bodily fluid with sweaty, tired, Photographers who’ve spent the day lugging around heavy equipment to numerous venues.
COVID-19 would RAVISH the place. Season after Season.
Fashion Week will never be the same.
But don’t be surprised if you don’t see certain high end luxury brands taking heed of this. It’s bigger than them. Let’s not forget it’s here where Actresses, Singers and future high fashion cover stars are made. Iconic models like Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, Cindy Crawford and Kate Moss careers were built on the grandness of Fashion Week(s).
And today you have rising Fashion Icons like runway models Imaan Hamm, Binx Walton Tami Williams and Fernanda Ly whom all created a major profitable lane owning the streets of Fashion Week. And we haven’t even touched on the Fashion Editors, Stylist, Designers and Filthy Rich Wives of Billionaire men.
It’s the best reality show to have never hit television.
But no one had any idea that a Global Pandemic would take over the world and the way we see and experience Fashion would change forever.
Through the years of 2015-2019, I had no idea that I was documenting Fashion History. But that’s the beauty in Photography. Photos, like music, last forever and often times you never know how important the Art is until years later.
During these years I learned that there is no connection greater than Fashion and People. And there is not a more authentic connection than People and the Streets. Mix them together and you have one of the Greatest Stories Ever Told.
